To undertake research in frontier areas such as better partitioning of feed into microbial biomass and reducing waste gas production in the rumen and thereby reduce environmental pollution. To develop database on existing feed and fodder resources so that research can be undertaken to meet the gap between demand and supply through new and non-conventional feed resources. Manipulation of rumen fermentation to improve the efficiency of feed utilization. Research on multiple uses of crop residues such as sweet sorghum for ethanol production and utilization of bagasse and leaf strippings for manufacture of complete feeds for livestock. Research on growth promoters like pro-biotics, prebiotics, enzymes etc. which are environmentally more acceptable. Biotechnological interventions for eliminating antinutritional/toxic factors from feeds and fodders. Research on use of immuno-modulators for improving animal health. Research on common nutritional deficiencies in field conditions and measures of strategic supplementation to overcome the deficiencies. Nutritional modulation to improve the quality of foods of animal origin.
