Jersey Cross

Jersey Cross

Jersey cross: Jersey is smaller in size and gives less milk yield but with higher fat percentage when compared to Holstein-Friesian.  The breed is also more disease-resistant and reproductively more efficient.  It is also more heat tolerant and is preferred in areas with low inputs.  As per the national breeding policy, crossbreeding is advocated with nondescript cattle limited to 50% exotic inheritance.  The crossbreds have to be mated inter se to maintain the level of exotic inheritance at 50%.  Research on improvement of the performance of crossbred cows through sire selection is needed
