                                      Livestock Complex

To maintain breeding stock of various indigenous breeds of livestock under different feeding regimen.  To supply experimental animals to all research groups.  To study the yield parameters of the indigenous meat animals.  To produce elite breeding stock from the parent stock for supply to the farmers for breeding purpose.

  Poultry Unit:

To provide infrastructure facilities for maintaining different avian species for the purpose of breeding / supply of germ-plasm.  To provide avian experimentation facilities to carry out different trials namely evaluation of feed resources, drugs, toxic studies etc.

 Laboratory Animal Unit:

To maintain the identified strains of various laboratory animals such as rabbits, guinea pigs, rats and mice to meet the demand of various research groups for conducting the feed and drug trials or other experiments. To create facilities for undertaking contract research on lab. Animals for various biotech companies, R & D units of pharmaceutical companies, etc.

 Embryo Collection Centre:

The facility is to be located in the Livestock Complex towards the Reproduction & Cryobiogy laboratory. The animals are brought to the facility for collection of semen, hormonal treatment for multiple ovulation, AI, collection of ova and embryos, embryo transfer, pregnancy diagnosis and other interventions related to reproduction and cryobiology.

 Feed Mixing Plant:

To prepare and supply the feed to all the livestock on the farm.  To prepare and supply all the experimental feeds.  To utilize different agricultural wastes in the livestock feeds & make suitable recommendations to be implemented by the field staff of the Department of Animal Husbandry.

  Fodder Section:

To grow and supply fodder to all the Livestock and Experimental animals.  To supply chaffed fodder and silage.  To develop new varieties of fodder seeds for distribution to the farmers of the state.  To develop new fodder varieties that are drought resistant and that can be grown in water logging areas for distribution to the farmers.  Training farmers in the agronomical practices of various fodder crops.
