Molecular genetics

Molecular genetic characterization of indigenous livestock breeds including poultry, using various molecular markers. Identification of breed specific molecular markers and markers for disease resistance and adaptability for patenting. Molecular basis of silent heat and seasonality in breeding of buffaloes. Research on application of embryonic stem cells in treating the genetic diseases. Production of transgenic animals for research on enhancing disease resistance.  Genetic engineering of rumen microbes for enhancing the digestibility and utilization of feed. Creation of specific pathogen free (SPF) lab. Animal facilities.  Molecular genetic studies will be made on Ongole cattle for disease resistance and heat tolerance, Punganur cattle for dwarfness, Bhadawari buffaloes for high fat percentage in milk, Garole sheep for fecundity and Black Bengal goats for meat quality.
