Organizational Structure

  (1). Research groups: The Centre will have 6 research groups as follows:

1.   Molecular and cyto-genetics

2.   Reproduction and cryobiology

3.   Biotechnology and nano-biology

4.   Microbiology and immunology

5.   Animal nutrition

6.   Quality control

 The research groups including laboratories and staff will be accommodated in the research block.

           (2). Centers: In addition to the six research groups, there will be four other related centers as follows:

          1. Central instrumentation Laboratory

          2. Bioinformatics and Information technology centre
          3. Library and information centre

          4. Training and extension centre

The centers will facilitate the work of the research groups and they will also be housed in the research block.

            (3). BSL and ABSL laboratories: BSL-3 and ABSL-3 laboratories for conducting research on bacteria and  viruses and diseases caused by them will also be located in the research block.

The Livestock Complex located adjacent to the research block includes  dairy unit; sheep, goat and piggery unit; poultry unit;  laboratory animal unit; feed and fodder unit; embryo collection unit and veterinary hospital and quarantine unit as  experimental  and demonstration units


The Institute will be headed by a Director.  There will be 20 Principal Scientists, 30 Senior Scientists and 40 Scientists in the 20 disciplines of  Animal Biotechnology, Animal Genetics and Breeding, Animal Nutrition, Veterinary Microbiology, Veterinary Epidemiology, Veterinary Medicine, Animal Reproduction, Veterinary Pharmacology, Animal Husbandry Extension, Livestock Production and Management, Livestock Products Technology, Biochemistry, Veterinary Pathology, Veterinary Public Health, Veterinary Parasitology, Information Technology, Nanotechnology, Agronomy, Animal  Physiology and Economics and Statistics.

The recruitment of the staff will be made on tenure basis for certain posts.  Basic veterinary qualification will be waived for certain disciplines like biotechnology, biochemistry, information technology, nanotechnology, agronomy, economics and statistics.  The pay and allowances and the work atmosphere will be so structured as to attract best talent in India and abroad including NRIs.  Reputed Scientists of national and international levels need to be inducted for successful functioning of the Institute.

The Para-technical Staff includes Junior Veterinary Officers, Livestock Assistants, Veterinary Assistants, Lab-Technicians and Computer operators.

The Support Staff will include Administrative Officer, Superintendents, Stenographers, Senior Assistants, J. A. C. Ts, Drivers, Record Assistants and Attenders.

There will be Maintenance Staff of Civil, Electrical, Automobile and Instrumentation Engineers, Electricians, Plumbers, Carpenters, Automobile mechanics and Motor and pump set mechanics.

           Contract Labour will be engaged as per need.

Consequent to the incorporation of IGCARL as a Private Limited Company, the designation of Director has been changed as Chief Executive Officer. Further with the introduction of PPP and SEZ, the private partners are expected to set up laboratories and recruit scientists and other staff.  Thus there will be savings in equipment and recurring expenditure in the form of staff salaries, chemicals, glassware and other contingencies.
